How to cover a face in a photo without uploading
The Cover face workflow on Tokitool’s Remove Person page: hide a face without a cloud studio, when emoji overlay is the right job, and when not to expect Photoroom-style fill.
How to hide your face in a picture: open Remove Person, wait until faces are found in the tab, tap the face, put an emoji on it, and download a free PNG. The photo is not uploaded.
Search for “remove person from photo” is full of cloud editors that upload the picture and regenerate the scene. Tokitool’s Remove Person page is built for a smaller, private job: cover a face in a photo without sending the file to us. This guide is that workflow — not a promise that experimental erase will look like Photoroom or BeautyPlus.
Cover a face vs remove a person
Cover face finds faces on your device, lets you tap one, and puts an emoji on it. The rest of the photo stays. That is the reliable hide, and it is the default when the page finishes detecting.
Experimental erase tries to remove a whole silhouette and fill the hole from nearby pixels. It can work on one person against a plain wall, sky, or grass. It often looks soft on fences, brick, crowds, and mixed textures. We label it experimental because the fill copies what is already in the photo — it does not invent a missing street.
If the search you care about is “hide a face before I share this,” use Cover face. If you wanted a person gone and the background rebuilt, a cloud AI editor is a different product.
How to cover a face in a photo (no upload)
- Open Remove Person from Photo and drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP (max 12 MB).
- Wait until people and faces are found. That step runs in the tab. Cover face opens first.
- Tap the face you want hidden, pick an emoji, and check the overlay at a normal zoom.
- Download the free PNG. No watermark, no account. Repeat for other faces in a group shot.
Need a full cutout of a subject instead of hiding a face? Use the Background Remover — also on-device, with a model download on first use.
Does the photo get uploaded?
No. Covering faces, brushing, and erase all run in your browser. Tokitool does not receive the image. The only network fetch for this tool is the detection model from a CDN the first time you use the page (weights for local inference, not “email us your photo”).
How to check: DevTools → Network, clear the log, drop a photo, and confirm you do not see the picture body posted to a Tokitool API. The same check is spelled out in what private browser tools actually mean.
When Cover face is the right job
- A group shot you want to share without one recognisable face.
- A screenshot or meme where a bystander should not stay identifiable.
- Any photo where the problem is a face, not the whole body against a busy street.
After you hide faces, if the file still has to hit a millimetre or kilobyte rule, use the Passport Photo Resizer or the Image Compressor. Covering a face does not change print size or file weight by itself.
When not to use experimental erase
Skip erase when the person overlaps a fence, a crowd, lettering, or a patterned wall. Those scenes do not have a clean patch to copy. Sample background can help a simple fill; it will not invent architecture. If the result looks smeared, restore and stay on Cover face.
Frequently asked questions
How do I cover a face in a photo?
Open Remove Person from Photo, drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP, wait until faces are found on your device, tap a face, pick an emoji, and download a PNG. Cover face is the default mode.
How do I hide a face in a photo without uploading?
Use this site’s Cover face flow. Finding faces, placing the overlay, and exporting the PNG all run in your browser. Tokitool does not receive the photo. The only extra network fetch is the detection model from a CDN the first time you use the page.
Is covering a face free? Is there a watermark?
Yes. Download is a free PNG with no watermark, no account, and no credit limit. What you see in the editor is what you get.
Is covering a face the same as removing a person from a photo?
No. Cover face hides a detected face with an emoji. It does not rebuild the background. Experimental erase tries to patch a silhouette from nearby pixels and often smears on fences, crowds, and brick. If you need a studio-quality empty street, this is the wrong tool.
Can I cover a face in a group photo?
Yes. Tap each detected face you want hidden. Leave the rest. Overlapping people are hard for erase; Cover face still works face by face.
Will the original face still be in the file?
The PNG you download is a flattened image with the overlay baked in. Anyone who only has that file cannot recover the covered face from it. Keep or delete the original on your device yourself — Tokitool never stored it.
Written for Tokitool’s Cover face flow as it behaves today. Detection quality depends on the photo; we do not claim every face will be found, and we do not claim erase matches cloud generative editors.
