WhatsApp Chat to PDF on iPhone

iPhone can export a chat as text, but not as a polished PDF. Export Without Media, get the .txt onto a computer (or a browser that can open the file), then convert privately with Tokitool.

Open WhatsApp Chat to PDF

How to export WhatsApp chat on iPhone and make a PDF

  1. Open the chat. In the WhatsApp iPhone app, open the individual or group conversation you need.
  2. Export Chat Without Media. Tap the contact or group name at the top Export Chat Without Media. Save or share the export (Files, AirDrop, Mail, etc.).
  3. Locate the .txt. If you got a zip, open it and use the .txt inside. Tokitool’s converter reads the text file, not the whole zip.
  4. Convert in the browser. Open the WhatsApp Chat to PDF tool, drop the .txt, and download the PDF. Processing stays on your device.

iPhone export quirks that matter for PDFs

WhatsApp for iPhone typically wraps timestamps in brackets in the export file. Tokitool’s parser accepts that iPhone line shape as well as common Android formats, so you do not need a separate “iPhone converter.”

Export is only available in the mobile WhatsApp app, not WhatsApp Web or Desktop. If Export Chat is missing, update the app and look under the chat info screen; menu labels can shift slightly by version.

AirDrop or Files → On My iPhone / iCloud Drive is usually the cleanest path to a Mac. On Windows, email the export to yourself or use a cable/cloud folder, then open the .txt in Chrome or Edge on Tokitool.

Prefer Without Media when you only need the conversation text. With Media creates a larger archive; you still extract the .txt for this tool. Keep the media zip separately if attachments matter later.

For a longer walkthrough of parser behavior and “no messages found” fixes, see the full export guide. This page is the iPhone-focused path into the same free tool.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert WhatsApp to PDF directly inside the iPhone app?

WhatsApp exports a .txt (or zip with media), not a designed PDF. Use Export Chat, then convert the .txt with Tokitool in a browser that can open the file.

Does Tokitool work on iPhone Safari?

Yes for smaller exports, but large group chats are easier on a laptop. AirDrop the .txt to a Mac and convert there if the phone struggles.

Why does my iPhone export look different from Android?

Line formats differ (bracketed timestamps are common on iPhone). Tokitool accepts both. Always use the official Export Chat .txt, not a screenshot or Notes paste.

Is the chat uploaded when I make a PDF?

No. Parsing and PDF generation run in your browser. The file is not sent to Tokitool servers for conversion.
