How to convert a JPG to PNG

Need a .png from a .jpg for an editor, a template, or a site that only accepts PNG? Convert it here without uploading the photo.

  1. Add your JPG files. Drop one or many .jpg / .jpeg files onto the compressor.
  2. Choose Convert to PNG. Select PNG as the output format.
  3. Keep full size unless you must shrink. Leave quality near 100 for a 1:1 pixel PNG, or lower it to scale down a huge source.
  4. Download. Save the .png, or grab the batch as a ZIP.

When JPG to PNG makes sense

JPG is built for photographs. PNG is built for sharp edges, text, and later editing. Converting JPG to PNG does not magically restore detail the JPEG already threw away. What you get is a lossless container around the pixels you still have, which some tools and workflows simply prefer as .png.

Expect the file to get larger, sometimes much larger. That is normal. PNG stores every pixel without the photo-style compression JPG uses. If your goal is a smaller upload for a form, stay on JPG or see Compress image to 100 KB. JPG to PNG is for format requirements and editing, not for shrinking.

Transparency is another reason people ask for PNG. A plain JPG has no alpha channel. Converting it to PNG gives you an opaque image (usually on white). It does not invent a cutout. For a logo that already has a clear background, start from a PNG or WebP that still has transparency.

In Tokitool’s Image Compressor, choose Convert to PNG, leave quality mode on, and download. The quality slider scales resolution for PNG (browsers do not offer a true lossy PNG quality knob). Keep full size when you care about detail; lower the slider only when the PNG is too heavy for the next step.

Batch works the same way as our other converters: drop several JPGs, convert together, download a ZIP. Everything stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JPG to PNG for free?

Open Tokitool’s Image Compressor, drop the JPG, choose Convert to PNG, and download. No account and nothing is uploaded.

Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?

PNG is lossless. It does not use JPEG-style photo compression, so the same pixels often take more bytes. That is expected.

Does JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. It preserves the pixels you already have. Detail lost in the original JPG cannot come back.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

Not from a normal camera JPG. Those are opaque. Transparency has to exist in the source (or be created in an editor).

Can I convert several JPGs to PNG at once?

Yes. Add up to 30 files, convert, and use Download all for a ZIP.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser.
